Did God really have a Son?

By Cecil Stewart, IYFM.

Many Muslim men have asked me, “How could God have a son?”. Their question is more a declaration than a question. The declaration is, that God could not have a son.

Much of what I have read on the subject by Jewish writers hinge on one central truth; “Hear oh Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one!”. Both religions seem to have a certain consensus that God did not have a son.

It seems to me that in Psalm 2 God himself declares that His anointed one is indeed His Son. See for yourself:

Psalms 2

1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying , 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’ vessel. 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

One day soon Jesus the Messiah will stand again on the earth and the kings of the earth shall band together to oppose Him. They will seek to oppose Him because they oppose the liberty and justice Jesus came to procure and proclaim. But the earth and all it contains is His. It is His posession and He will rule it with a rod of iron.

All who oppose him will be crushed but all who honor and revere Him will be blessed.

  1. I enjoyed reading your site. It made me think about my life. It made me see how often God steps in when I feel so stressed and can’t understand what the future holds for me. J.

    • Yes, I took a really long tine to respond to this one probably because you were “nameless” but to the Jehovah, you are not anonymous… He knows you; know what you like, knows who you are deep inside. He knows where you fall short and He knows where you excel.

We tend to dwell on where we fall short, yet despite having all knowledge about us, HE LOVES us. He loves us to the point of Giving His one and only Son so that Redemption will be ours… And the good news is that we are rushing toward the time when all of creation will be redeemed and restored. If you accept Him, your future in Him is assured.. And it is good…. So keep smiling!

  2. I would like to invite others to develop this topic more by adding their insight. One thing that has bothered me when I heard people say that God could not do this thing or that, is the fact that the very thought puts a limit on what God can do.The point is, if God can be hobbled by our thoughts, if he can be limited to only what we deem acceptable, then He is by definition NOT God.
